~ The End Of Nightmare ~

nae kkumkkeo, annyeonghaseyo! dreamcatcher imnida!

The End of Nightmare is the fourth mini album by kpop girl group Dreamcatcher. It was released on February 13, 2019 and is available in two versions, Stability and Instability Versions. The album also marks the end of the Nightmare Quartet.

The album features 6 tracks in total, including an introductory track and the instrumental to Piri. “Piri” was released through a music video that features the members performing powerful choreography in elegant red and black and, later, soft pink uniform-inspired costuming. The dance scenes are interspersed with ones featuring the members facing, and running away from, a variety of nightmarish scenes.

Bilboard

A song dominated by a sleek flute sound and the group's characteristic heavy rock instrumentals, “Piri,” the Korean word for “pipe,” is powerful in its fierce vocal display from the act. With boisterous percussion and sweeping synths, plus heavy-handed raps countered by soft renditions of the titular phrase “blow the pipe” and chanting “oh-ohs,” the song is a charismatic dance track that furthers Dreamcatcher’s distinct sonic identity. source

PIRI, after a very quick Google search, is a Korean instrument made from bamboo, which is often heard in Korean folk music. I am not 100% sure but it seems like PIRI opens up with a whistling sound, which I think could be an actual piri instrument. But it is used as a detail, on top of the group signature rock instrumental sound. source

Listening to “The End of Nightmare” from the first song to the last is an auditory journey, If this is seemingly the end of DREAMCATCHER’s dreams and nightmares concept, I look forward to seeing where they take their music next. source

Track List

PIRI’ (which means flute in Korean). The story of the song is a bit bitter as it tells you a story of a person who tries to escape from the nightmare ends up in a maze inside the dream, ending up being trapped within the dream. According to DREAMCATCHER, it mirrors the current state of mind of people who are living the modern society. The video can be a bit dark and spooky since the theme is after all, “Nightmare”. The girls are trying to escape from their nightmare. There are piled dolls, clocks, and phones telling you that the situation is imminent! But when you get to the part when the group is performing, their strong colors pop out with the rock sound, telling you to play the flute to end your nightmare. source
